Tonight my family enjoyed our first ever salad from our garden. I didn’t pick enough, but I treaded through mud and rain with a flashlight to get what I did. Tonight we enjoyed mixed lettuce, two kinds of baby spinach, and sugar snap peas. Everything was delicious, but by far my favorites are the sugar snap peas. I look forward to more garden variety as the other veggies grow.
Allright, I confess. I’ve already been munching on the snap peas. Perhaps I should have called this the “first official harvest photograph.” But it is true that tonight was the first time the rest of my family tried them. It counts, right?
Oh I am jealous! To have snap peas in your backyard! One day I will plant food, too!
Isn’t it exciting?? Congratulations! We had our first baby lettuces salad on Sunday as a result of my thinning the seedlings. I’ve still got more weeding and thinning to do, but I’m so psyched that many of the lettuces are big enough to snip for little salads.
And it was yummy, too!
Congratulations! It definitely counts. I don’t grow vegies but I do have herbs and it gives me great pleasure to use those from my garden. I don’t think I trust myself with real live food stuffs. LOL
YES it counts! I remember my first salad…sigh…I can’t wait to plant mine!
(@LeSan – mesclun and baby lettuces are as easy as herbs, as long as it’s not too hot. Give them a try!)
Heather, snap peas are super easy to grow and they’re pretty little vines, too, in my opinion. Cute little blooms. I bet you could find a spot in your existing garden if you don’t have your veggie garden ready (weather/season permitting, too). All you need is something for them to climb on so they don’t strangle your other plants. They taste sooooo good and produce food even when still young. If I don’t stop munching on them, we’ll never have enough for a full serving at dinnertime.
LeSan, leaf vegetables are proving to be easy to grow, too — and because they don’t need pollination, I’m keeping the worms off with a sheer row cover. I’m just snipping leaves when we want to eat them, so the plants themselves keep growing.
Looks wonderful..and super healthy! Lovely! It’s always rewarding to grow your own and enjoy it.I love sugar snap peas..I always snuck in the garden when I was a little kid to munch on them!
My fall garden is way behind yours. But your post gives me things to look forward to. The greens look delicious. And, of course, you must snack in the garden.
great colors and textures – and looks yummy to eat too!
Yummy, healthy, organic! Bravo, Meredith! Snow peas – I read what you wrote to Heather about them. If they are easy, I can try them next year.
Sound like a great idea. You need to come out here to help me pick a spot!
Oh, like you’re just right around the corner, haha…
It totally counts! Looks like some beautiful and yummy produce. Keep on enjoying it.
