The Moth That Ate Texas

Ever have those moments you so very much wish you had your camera with you? If you are lucky, you might at least have your camera phone with you. And if you are really lucky, the picture you take might actually turn out okay. And then, if you are really, really lucky, the picture might even turn out pretty cool.

imperialmothc08-31-10.jpgThis moth delighted kids and parents alike as it rested for hours on a school window. It appears to be an Imperial Moth, Eacles imperialis, but I prefer to call it Mothra. Now we just need Godzilla!

We’ve got a busy habitat year ahead of us at the school already. My poor garden at home is already getting neglected… again!

  1. Wow that’s amazing on so many levels! Everyone must be thrilled to see the wildlife inhabiting the new school habitat. Then to actually have a cell phone that takes a decent picture! You’ve got lady luck on your side today for sure 🙂

  2. Meredith,
Very cool photos of your Imperial Moth. These guys are very easy to photograph during the day because they only fly at night. Meg’s class has raised 19 adult Black Swallowtails!

  3. Nineteen! What fun for her class. I should go check and see whether any dill is starting to grow back. It might still be too early, though. So very hot here.

  4. What a wonderful moth and so cool that you were able to get good photos of it. We’ve been enjoying some Hummingbird moths in our Datura and Esperanza. Our Labor Day party guests all gathered to watch two of them cruising around yesterday! Have a great rest of the weekend.
