What a beautiful bird bath! No wonder that woodpecker had to gaze upon it! I have several bird baths and always love to watch the birds “around the water cooler.” There is a definite social order.
The woodpecker definitely got to drink — I just was too slow to get a picture. If you look closely, you can see the ripples of water where its bill entered the water. I did get a picture of droplets of water on the woodpecker’s bill, but it wasn’t my favorite shot.
What an great shot. The woodpecker’s head is as vibrant as your basin. It’s nature amazing?
Meredith,
So cute, made my night!

So friggin’ cute! Especially since he matches the birdbath so well.
Hi, Meredith,
I love the 2nd pic where he seems to be staring at his own reflection. Beautiful birdbath – where did you get it?

Please mum, we need a rock, or a branch …
Oh my gosh, that is too cute! Another one of those postcard photos! You sure capture wildlife well, Meredith!
I love woodpeckers, and especially loooove these shots!
I assume the bird went away thirsty?

In the last shot he seems to be saying “are you going to fix this or just stand there taking pictures?” Thanks so much for sharing the moment.
