When I was a kid, I adored Ranger Rick magazine. My love for all things nature was already strongly in place, but Ranger Rick introduced me to creatures I’d never seen before, amazing facts about all sorts of wildlife, natural sciences, and gorgeous photography. The stewardship I do for the environment today, including the volunteering I do on behalf of the National Wildlife Federation and other environmental organizations, is due largely in part to the effect that Ranger Rick had on me every time I opened that magazine. Frankly I still adore Ranger Rick, and I keep a collection of magazines here for my kids and visiting children to enjoy.
I got the chance to have my picture taken with Ranger Rick a few days ago at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a spectacular NWF-orchestrated demonstration habitat for the Austin Independent School District. I don’t think I need to tell you how meaningful this was to me!
That’s so awesome!
I only had to wait 40-something years!
