Look what I discovered was visiting the cantaloupe today.
I feel like I’ve reached a major gardening milestone — I’ve officially attracted a (major) bee to pollinate my flowers. He was quite a busy bee, too. My pictures aren’t great — the sun was high, and I was hot, but I snapped a few and got myself out of there.
Is he actually a honeybee? That would make me extra happy.
There was also this little butterfly around, with a nice long proboscis. I believe it’s a skipper, but I don’t know which kind yet.
So it’s a happy day. Plus my kids are back in school as of today. Brain power!
yay!! looks like i’ll be begging cantaloupe from you before i ever see any on mine!! hahah
Ooh… and don’t I just know the feeling when the kids are back at school! Time to get out in the garden and do what you want to do!
It looks like a bee to me…but then I haven’t seen them in a long time! Beautiful shots. I remember well these “back to school” times. I almost bought supplies to send to my grad school adult child just for a laugh! gail
Yay! This all looks Very Encouraging indeed! Congratulations!
You do have a honeybee. You did such a good job photographing it you can actually see the pollen basket on her leg with yellow pollen in it. This Spring we got two hives and I’ve been very distracted from my gardening chores because I’m watching the bees do theirs.
I never can seem to “catch” a picture of those guys! Great pictures!
Yay! I LOVE bees (as long as I don’t get stung by one). I’m not sure if this is a honey bee or not (let’s hope it isn’t a killer bee (=) I have never seen more bees in my garden than I have this year and they are fun to watch as they buzz in and out of the garden. I had one JUMBO bumble bee in my garden the other day and I wish I had my camera handy to capture its size! Loved your photographs and “capture” of the bee.
Those are about the best looking vegetable garden plants I have seen in a long time, and I see some fruit.
