Woot, we officially received our certificates in the mail for Best of Texas Backyard Habitat and Texas Wildscapes Backyard Wildlife Habitat. Both of these certifications take wildlife habitats to a higher level beyond the simpler NWF certification, requiring a large percentage of native plants, year-round food and water sources, and dedication to sustainable gardening and control of invasives.
It had been on my list to complete the applications for some time. Feels so good to make it official!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations! You must have put a lot of hard work into the environment, as well as the paperwork. I’m not sure which would be harder.
Great job! You have done such a great job in getting all of this recognition for the garden.
Congrats, Meredith. I feel good for you too. We don’t have such certs over here.
Thanks, everyone! The application was a little intimidating when I first looked at it a long time ago, but once I started filling it out, it was much easier. Honestly, having the blog helped — I already had a list of all my plants, plus available photos, and the rest fell into place. If you’ve been thinking about doing it, do!
Congratulations! I finally got around to submitting our application last summer. It looked so scary! But I also enjoyed the chance to really reflect on what we had in black & white. However, it took us forever to finally put up our sign. We couldn’t find just the right spot for it. Hope you don’t wait so long. Great critter pictures too. Yes, doves seem so dumb but sometimes they have a smart one in the bunch.
